Scott M. first started playing guitar around 10 years old. Mom and Dad bought him a nylon Yamaha 6 string classical guitar which Scott still has to this day. The first real song Scott learned was Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by the Beatles. Soon school activities and playing with friends took priority and the Yamaha began to collect dust.

When age 16 rolled around all of a sudden playing guitar became cool so Scott picked up an Electric guitar and started learning by playing with records. By 19 Scott joined two other musicians Steve Farrell on bass and Dave Pastuck on drums to form a Winnipeg band called Antares. Antares played the local bar scene in Winnipeg from 1980 to 1985.

When Scott left Antares he moved to Saskatoon to work for his Dad and started recording original material. 3 90 minute tapes of 10 track originals was the result of two years of work up to 1986. Scott worked as an unregistered Music Therapist at a nursing home in Saskatoon from 1990 to 1997 playing tunes from the 30s 40s and 50s for the residents there.

In 2000 Scott moved to Edmonton and played in a variety of bands including a 10 year stint in a Worship band at a local Edmonton church. Playing at open jams was also quite common.

In 2020 prompted by the Covid crisis, Scott McBride reunited with Scott Anderson whom he had played with briefly in a local Edmonton band and started jamming with Scott online each week. Thus began a great collaboration and the Great Scott Band.
